This Dussehra, Burn The Evil Inside You

Published

on

Every year before Diwali, comes the auspicious ocassion of Dussehra and we all know the significance of this festival. For those of you who do know, Lord Ram killed Ravane on this day, restoring the faith of good over evil. Hence, proving that good always win and evil must be destroyed.

However, when we talk about evil, we only talk about the corruption, the pollution, adultery and other evils of the world in the present day. But what about the evil inside us? Yes, there are a few things we should burn on to purify ourselves and get rid of the evil inside us.

So let us begin and acknowledge the evil inside us and burn in down:

Ego

You might not realise it but ego is killing your inner peace and destroying your personal relationships on a daily basis. Hence, it is important to kill that ego, burn it and work towards becoming humble and down to earth. Who don’t want to look back and regret the things you lost because of your ego, right?

Anger

As it is said that anger is not healthy and a person in anger always takes the wrong decision, hence, you must learn the art of controlling your anger. A peaceful mind will always be happy in the long run. This is why many people opt for meditation and yoga to find their inner peace.

Jealousy

Jealousy is something which is considered very normal these days. But it is the root problem of many relationships. This Dussehra, let us make up our minds and decide to trust our loved ones and communicate well with them. Let us not cause sadness or harm our mental health.

Greed

In this era, everybody is becoming greedy but happy is that person who is satisfied with what they have. Money, love, jewels, there are many temptations, however, one should learn to control them, overcome them and feel free from such attractions and temptations and not let them control your lifestyle.

So are you ready to let go of the evil inside you this Dussehra?

You might be someone who wants to get into reading but is intimidated by books. Or you might be someone who isn’t able to find time to physically read. There are many reasons one might have to want to read books but not finding time enough for it. One fantastic solution to this problem is audiobooks. Yes, you heard it right! Audiobooks are a fantastic way to read without actually needing to sit down and physically read a book. You can just plug in your earphones and listen to someone read to you and do most of the work. Sites like Audible, Librivox, Storytel and Scribd are fantastic sites to get your new audiobook from. Also, yes, audiobooks are also a form of reading and you are in no way cheating by doing so. To further convince you, here are a few advantages to listening to an audiobook –

1) You Can Carry It Anywhere

Most of us carry our phones everywhere and that also means you can also carry your audiobooks everywhere. One can download an audiobook or stream the audiobook on any device without worrying about the space it takes or how heavy it is. Also one can plug in their earphones or headphones anytime to listen to an audiobook.

2) You Can Read It Anywhere

This brings me to my second point that you can read it anywhere. Whether you are travelling or have gotten some time off from school, college or work, you can easily use this time to listen to an audiobook. Not all of us can read physically in crowded places and metros but when you have an audiobook anything is possible.

3) You Can Read More

Without the pressure of having to be at home or the library, one can power through a lot of reading simply by listening to audiobooks. Let the audiobook do the work for you as you make your way through the day.

4) You Can Multitask

If you’re a student or are somebody who has a job, chances are that you don’t have too much time on your hands to sit down and physically read. For this reason, audiobooks are your absolute best friends! If you have pending laundry or are doing mindless chores like washing the dishes or cleaning your room, you can just put on an audiobook and listen while carrying out all these odd jobs. It’s a win-win situation, I say.

5) Audiobooks Are Tons Of Fun

Audiobooks can be tons of fun. Reading words on a page can sometimes get a tad boring. In this case, one can find a wide range of audiobooks with fantastic narrators, sound effects and cool accents and mimicry. Audiobooks are truly a pleasure to read and you should definitely check them out for yourself!

Unhealthy Habits You Should Quit Right Away

Published

on

Some very common habits aren’t that good for us. The mundane things you do-or don’t do-every day might be sabotaging your efforts to be healthier. As you read the list of daily habits that makes you unhealthy, don’t be too hard on yourself and expect that you’ll change all of these at once. The key to success is to slowly integrate change into your life. Between interfering with your sleep and increasing your risk of deadly diseases, read on to find out what you probably should stop doing.

1. Hitting The Snooze Button

Via Pinterest

It’s so easy to wake up to your alarm and simply press the snooze button. Those extra few minutes are so enticing. But if you’re already very tired, snoozing is the last thing you need. After snoozing the alarm, you will likely start a new sleep cycle, which will be interrupted once the alarm goes off again. Sleep inertia, a groggy and tired state, affects you whenever you wake up, but snoozing just lengthens the time you’re afflicted. 20 minutes might turn into two to four hours.

2. Nail Biting

Via Pinterest

Not only is nail biting unhygienic, it is also socially repelling, leads to dental problems like malocclusion of the anterior teeth, potentially cause stomach problems and lead to severely deformed fingernails in the long run. People who bite their nails tend to have shorter nails than the average person; their nail plates also experience scarring and may eventually become absent. Your hands are the dirtiest part of you they touch everything: doorknobs, food, toilets, other people. The list goes on. Putting these dirty digits in your mouth could give you a cold or another illness, depending on what microbes are chilling on your fingers.

3. Not Drinking Enough Water

Via Pinterest

Water accounts for 60 percent of our body so it’s not too surprising that drinking water benefits your total body health. Staying hydrated helps to keep your memory sharp, your mood stable and your motivation intact. Keeping up with your fluids helps your skin stay supple, your body cool down when it’s hot, allows your muscles and joints to work better and helps clean toxins from your body via your kidneys. So, how much water should you be drinking? Science says adult men need about 13 cups per day of fluid; adult women need about 9.

4. Brushing Your Teeth Right After Eating

It seems counterintuitive to brush your teeth before breakfast unless you’re in the habit of eating on the way, but it can be the best option. Brushing your teeth right after eating or drinking can be a unhealthy habit for your tooth enamel, especially if you ate something acidic. Acid isn’t good for the enamel on your teeth; it erodes the protective covering. As a result, brushing right after you eat can push the acid even further into your teeth. Plus, once the acid gets through the enamel, it starts eating at another layer on your teeth: the dentin. Wait at least 30 minutes after eating to brush your teeth.

5. Eating Lunch at Your Desk

Via Channel 4

It’s all too easy to munch on your midday meal desk-side, but according to research published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, you’ll feel more satisfied and will rein in that temptation to binge mid afternoon if you turn your attention toward your meal. Study participants who ate lunch without distractions felt fuller 30 minutes after eating, and ate less when they snacked later, than people who played solitaire on a computer during their midday meal. Mindful eating is the key. Work towards breaking this unhealthy habit.

6. Skipping Dessert

Unhealthy

Via TED

You may think you’re doing a good thing by banishing sweet treats. But studies suggest that feeling deprived-even if you are consuming plenty of calories-can trigger overeating. And making any food off-limits just increases its allure. So if it’s something sweet you’re craving, go for it: a small treat won’t break your diet! Two squares of dark chocolate or ½ cup of ice cream clock in at under 150 calories. While keep in mind too much dessert is also unhealthy.
