Published

on

Shahid Kapoor has undoubtedly given one of his career-best performances this year in Kabir Singh. The film garnered a lot of critical acclaims. And also the film also turned out to be his biggest money-spinner to date. The Sandeep Reddy Vanga directorial went on to make over Rs 280 crore at the box office which is an astounding figure. Right after the film released, the actor had spoken about the controversy surrounding it. And he had also mentioned that a film like Kabir Singh doesn’t get celebrated although Sanju does and that he won’t be given any awards for his role.

Recently at an awards night, the handsome star was promised the Best Actor Popular Award. He went in thinking that he is getting the award. Along with that, he was also going to perform at the event.

“It was an understanding that Shahid will perform because he was bagging the award. He had rehearsed for the performance too. But it seems that there was a last-minute change and that reportedly upset Shahid.”

The source adds, “Shahid apparently lost his cool on the organizers because it was an unprofessional move on their part to sneakily change the whole scenario. He was reportedly very upset with how the whole thing was addressed. The award was then presented to Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor then supposedly walked out of the show. He was to perform. But he decided not to record his performance as well.” The awards night that was conducted a few days ago will be telecast soon. But as of now, the channel hasn’t been able to get a replacement for Shahid. Rumours say that Varun Dhawan is being finalised as his replacement.

Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan’s Trailer Is Out!

Published

on

By

Bollywood loves sequels. And over the years, the incentive to make sequels extra thrilling and engaging has only grown. After watching this trailer, it is safe to say that the makers have succeeded on that front. Read on to know more about Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan.

Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan – the trailer

In its first look, it is clear that the movie is going to be equal parts funny and emotional. As you may know, the first part also starred Ayushmann Khurrana in it. But this time, the opposite leads have been switched up. And that is because now Ayushmann Khurrana and Jitendra Kumar play a young couple in love! The setting is of the movie is thus quite exciting and promising. Moreover, homosexuality and gay love are still sensitive subjects – for a lot of reasons. And when you rope in families and big fat weddings, the stakes only go up.

The plot

Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan (2020) | Hindi | Hitesh Kewalya . I generally don't discuss films before they are released or before I watch them, but like many people out there, I am intrigued by this trailer, and I want to say a few things about it. First of all, it is an important movie. Not that there haven't been films that have touched upon the LGBT issue in the past, but it is only now that mainstream Bollywood is seeing a new wave of films that are unapologetically and openly talking about sex and homosexuality, fortunately both in case of men and women. While Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga was more on a subtler side, and focussed on a girl's struggle to convince her family about her sexuality (her love interest being revealed much later in the movie), in SMZS we hope to witness the love story of the two men in its entirety, just like any usual Bollywood flick would portray. The trailer also has a dialogue by Ayushmann telling Jeetu that his father will understand their love because he is educated. And of course we find that it's not so simple. It was important to address the fact that such prejudices are ingrained in people's minds despite their background, and it is only a change of mentality that can cure homophobia. At some point, we may wonder when are we going to have mainstream films that will deal with the subject in a more serious manner. There have been films like Aligarh for example, but the audience is still not prepared to flock the theatres for a serious treatment of homosexuality. I do see it happening soon, but till then, a step towards promoting acceptance through films like SMZS is a welcome move. The main idea is to strike a conversation, that films like Padman have been able to do for menstruation, or Badhaai Ho has done for bridging generation gap. It is wonderful to see this new "edutainment" sub-genre of Hindi films that is evolving. Although there's a danger of it becoming formula-driven, we need to support them while it lasts, because India is a country that has always preferred to learn stuff via entertainment, and it still has a lot of learning to do.

By the looks of it, Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan is this couple’s journey of how their family and friends react to their relationship. A lot seems to have been said and done. Relatives pose intrusive questions. Parents play the blame game. And they of course, receive a lot of backlash. But after Khurrana says “Ek aadh happy ending toh hamari bhi Banti hai” we are hopeful that everyone will come around to accept their love in the end!

The importance of such movies

Up until now, Bollywood has been quite insensitive towards members of the LGBTQ+ community. Innumerable movies have made jokes at their expense. Even Khurrana’s own Badhai Ho! is not an exception. Thus, movies that bring to light their struggles, experiences, and life in general – are extremely needed. So we got Ek Ladki… last year, and then Sheer Qorma as well. Let us see how Shubh Mangal… navigates its plot and storyline.

The prequel also picked up an important issue. It dealt with erectile dysfunction and how it affects the person, and everyone around them. In the end, the movie tells a lot about how to deal and react in such circumstances.

We hope to see more such informative and entertaining movies from Bollywood. Because to be honest, so many of us are tired of the basic love triangles and sexist dramas. It is high time Bollywood begins telling diverse stories responsibly.

The movie releases on Feb 21st, 2020.

Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan Shattering Homophobia.

Published

on

We know Ayushmann Khurrana not just as an exceptional actor, but also for the offbeat subjects that he chooses. The most recent one being Gay relationships and Homophobia. The trailer is brave and in the limited time of fewer than 3 minutes Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan shatters a lot of stereotypes that are against Homosexuals.

The Star Cast Par Excellence

Apart from Ayushmann Khurrana, the star cast includes Jitendra Kumar as Aman Tripathi, playing the love interest of Ayushmann. Neena Gupta as Sunaina Tripathi who is the mother of Aman. The role of Aman’s father is played by none other than Gajraj Rao.

Others in the star cast include Manurishi Chaddha, Sunita Rajwar, Maanvi Gagroo, Pankhuri Awasthy and Neeraj Singh.

Along with these powerhouses of performance, there is something more the makers have to excite us. The film will have a guest appearance by none other than Bhumi Pednekar.

What’s so special about Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan?

After the supreme court verdict on Section 377 a lot of progress has been seen in the kinds of movies made in Bollywood. Earlier Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga starring Sonam Kapoor and Rajkumar Rao came on the silver screen. The movie was fresh and it was lauded by the audience.

With Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan hitting the silver screen now, Bollywood’s take on the topic is expanding to Homophobia. The movie also has a “Zyada Family”. Take a look at the Zyada fun behind the scenes in the post below.

What’s so special about Ayushmann Khurrana?

Ayushmann Khurrana never fails to surprise the audience with his powerful performances and the unconventional seemingly “risky” topics that he takes up.  Right from talking about Sperm donation in Vicky donor to tackling the issue of body shaming and arranged marriages in Dum Lagake Haisha. Ayushmann didn’t stop there. He went on to do roles like a blind man in Andhadun, someone whose parents had late pregnancy in Badhaai Ho.

Later Ayushmann’s choice of movies took him to roles fighting untouchability (Article 15), playing a cross-gender role in Dream Girl and with Bala he played an individual with premature balding.

Now Ayushmann Khurrana is about to appear on Silver Screen as Kumar, a gay individual in love with a man. Not just that Kumar takes up on a fight to convince the family of his Love for their relationship. Look at how excited Ayushmann is for the release.

Deepika Padukone And Laxmi Agarwal Teach Us The True Meaning Of Sorority On Femina’s Latest Cover!

Published

on

By

There’s nothing purer and more empowering than true sisterhood. The sorority has always stood up as anti-patriarchy and an alternative to the “normative”. However, toxic masculinity has tried its best to pull down this togetherness by marring them, like forever. The male gaze has its voyeurism of sorts that has either used phallus to “discipline” women or acid, as an intrusion of a sort.

However, we have strong women standing up for their rights against chauvinist men and society in general. We have an actor, producer and philanthropist Deepika Padukone and acid attack survivor and social worker, Laxmi Agarwal.

Femina Magazine Latest Cover

Credits: Pinvilla

The cover stars for our latest issue, Deepika Padukone and Laxmi Agarwal coming together to show the power of sorority and how the bond breaks all stereotypical shackles of the society. However, it’s not just the spirit of sisterhood that binds these two beauties together. The two women come to share their struggles as women, and how they’ve stood up for every such thing. With Deepika Padukone’s latest movie Chhapaak (directed by Meghna Gulzar) on Laxmi’s life story, the to women form a bond that’s honest, and based on commonalities where both had to take something home from the other!

What’s More?!

The cover comes as a “chhapaak” of shame on men who see women as objects and “beauty” as vulnerable. The magazine cover defines the beauty of its own, in terms that are chimerical, yet substantiating. The cover holds the utmost importance as it embraces beauty in all forms.

Benevolent and empowered Deepika looks ethereal on the cover along with acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal whose gleaming and glistening like a flower. Both Deepika and Laxmi look prettiest as they laugh and smile like unwithered, immortal, timeless beauties, more like a vision to behold in white. The camaraderie that they share is an affirmation of happiness that’s not external, a hope that’s not material and a far-sightedness that’s timeless. What is even better about this concept is getting the real and reel life characters of ‘Chhapaak’ on the same platform and creating a positive aura everywhere.

We as “new women” and men with changed perceptions see this attempt as bold, beautiful and encouraging. The cover gives you chills, and at the same time make you look at women, not as objects but as humans. To rather look at them with dignity and fall for their smile, as pure as these two!

Final Thoughts

The bold actress not just marks her feminist impression on the sand of Bollywood, but also deeper in our hearts with her movie. However, not to mention how indebted we all are to Laxmi to be upfront about her tragedy and inspire us all to stand up for each other, to support women struggle, collectively, under growing sorority!
