We Cannot contain our excitement as Ganesh Gaitonde and Sartaj Singh are back for yet another season. Sacred Games 2 makes its way on August 15th.
The thriller series, based on author Vikram Chandra’s novel of the same name features Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Saif Ali Khan in the lead. Directed by Anurag Kashyap and Vikramaditya Motwane, the first season of the series had premiered on Netflix on July 6. Sacred Games is by far the biggest and most popular Netflix original from India, which is why the American giant has reportedly spent as much as Rs. 100 crores on making the highly-awaited second season.
A Quick Recap of Sacred Games 1
The story focuses on Sartaj Singh (Saif Ali Khan), a seasoned and cynical Bombay police officer, summoned by an anonymous tip one morning, a voice which promises him an opportunity to capture the powerful Ganesh Gaitonde (Nawazuddin Siddiqui), criminal overlord of the G-Company. As the stakes mount, Sartaj seeks knowledge of his prey. It becomes clear that the game the two players thought they were engaged in is in fact part of a much larger scenario, the one that expands beyond their city.
Season 1 of Sacred Games saw very memorable characters many of whom are sadly dead. Kuku (Kubra Sait), Subhadra (Rajshri Deshpande), Constable Katekar (Jitendra Joshi) whose catchphrases became as iconic as his character, and Anjali Mathur (Radhika Apte) an intelligence officer who quite ironically was shot in the head, are all gone. Some familiar faces like Bunty (Jatin Sarna) and Parulkar (Neeraj Kabi) are still around, as is the mysterious thumb chopping Malcolm (Luke Kenny).
What Makes Sacred Games Better Than Other TV Series
Sacred Games was a breath of fresh air to the Indian audience. Unlike the regular soap operas having absurd characters like naagin, this series gave a new dimension to thriller and mystery. The series provides something out of the ordinary compared to the plethora of other crime thrillers available.
Anurag Kashyap and Vikramaditya Motwane deliver a thriller that doesn’t shy away from being an indictment on religion. It may be just television, but it’s also pushing forth important representation. A TV is going global and Sacred Games is just one-way viewers can expand their worldview.
What’s In Store For Season 2?
The second season will pick up from Sartaj Singh (Saif Ali Khan) pursuing his relentless battle of saving the city and Ganesh Gaitonde (Siddiqui) facing bigger challenges to retain his position as the legendary kingpin of Mumbai, the streaming giant said in a press release. Actor Pankaj Tripathi who played the intriguing Guruji in season one will also be back for the show’s sophomore run.
For the second season, Kashyap will continue to direct the story of Siddiqui’s Gaitonde, while Motwane will be handing over the baton for the shooting of Sartaj Singh’s plot to “Masaan” helmer Neeraj Ghaywan. Motwane and Varun Grover will continue their roles of being the showrunner and the lead writer respectively.
Some Intriguing Question Nation Wants To Know
1. Why Was Gaitonde Saved?
Season 1 branched into parallel narratives, establishing the two central characters of Gaitonde and Sartaj. We saw Gaitonde’s journey from a penniless migrant to the most wanted gangster in Mumbai, to a man on the verge of death. But suddenly he is saved from a prison riot by mysterious men. Why? Why is he now in Cape Town and on the run? More importantly, why did he kill himself instead of finally having his revenge on his ‘teesra baap’ (third godfather)?
2. Who are the players old and new?
Kalki Koechlin and Ranvir Shorey will portray brand new characters. While Surveen Chawla whose character Jojo got shot dead in episode 1 of season 1, is resurrected to tell her story. I am most excited about most Pankaj Tripathi, who is playing Guruji, the mastermind masquerading as a godman. Who is he and what is his motive to unleash this horror? is still a mystery.
3. How are Gaitonde, Sartaj and Sartaj’s father linked?
It is established almost from the beginning that Gaitonde knew Sartaj’s father Dilbagh Singh who had helped him in prison, keeping him alive with food and water. What we don’t know was if it was out of kindness or if he was in on the conspiracy too. Season 1 teased a deeper bond between Gaitonde and Dilbagh and from what Season 2 trailers can tell us, the missing timelines have a lot of secrets to spill.
4. What Balidan does Guruji keep talking about?
The promos for Season 2 have Guruji talking about a sacrifice that needs to be made. In Season 1 as well, this balidaan (sacrifice) is a recurring theme. Malcolm elaborates on it in the finale, citing the story of Kane and Abel before chopping off Sartaj’s thumb as a sacrificial act. But is this sacrifice a personal? The one where people renounce the world to follow their spiritual leader. Maybe is it the end of an entire city to usher in a new way of life?. It still remains a big question.
We hope that season two is as amazing or even better than the magic we’ve seen in season 1. Related article- Aa Raha Hun! Web Series Sequels You Cannot Miss

Hailee Steinfeld Shines In The Trailer For ‘Dickinson’
Apple TV+ just dropped a new trailer for ‘Dickinson’ and it’s truly gorgeous. This is their new half-hour period drama centred around the great poet Emily Dickinson. The trailer cuts to beautiful scenic shots with enchanting background music and stunning visuals. Hailee Steinfeld portrays Emily Dickinson with a streak of rebellion. It features young poet Emily Dickinson wanting to write in a world that forbids her to. The trailer also references her famous poem, “Because I Could Not Stop For Death” where we have none other than Wiz Khalifa making an appearance as ‘Death’ itself.
The series has been created, written and executive produced by Alena Smith and executive produced by Hailee Steinfeld. “Dickinson”, the drama stars Hailee Steinfeld, Jane Krakowski, Toby Huss, Anna Baryshnikov, Ella Hunt, and Adrian Blake Enscoe with Wiz Khalifa as a guest star. Watch the breath-taking trailer below!
As one can clearly see from the trailer, an attempt is made to blend the old and the new. With Emily Dickinson’s values and struggles intact, the drama seems to loosen up the vocabulary and course of interactions between the characters. There is also strong undertones of teen angst and quirky humour that has sure piqued the interest of viewers.
AppleTV also shared their trailer on their Instagram account. Whilst this Apple TV series has been pitched as a comedy, one can clearly see that the show has in no way undermined the struggle of women and their lack of freedom to pursue their interests. The trailer stands as a reminder that those times weren’t easy and a woman was barely her own person. Emily Dickinson played by Hailee Steinfeld is set to portray all that and more in this new series. The story seems intriguing and the thrust of modernity in tone will interest even those not familiar with the iconic poet.

Here’s How Hasan Minhaj Called Out Justin Trudeau’s Hypocrisy
Hasan Minhaj is not known for his silence. This is the guy who spoke out against Saudi Arabia’s blatant human rights violation on his Netflix show. So when the Canadian government’s terrible actions regarding climate change came to light, fans knew this episode was coming. In the episode titled “The Two Sides of Canada,” we get to see the handsome and charming face of Canada, Justin Trudeau, in contrast with the reality of their actions.
Hasan Rips Into Trudeau With His Trademark Wit
At a time when so many reporters and journalists refuse to question authority, Minhaj comes as a breath of fresh air.
In this episode, he confronted the Canadian PM with all the burning questions.
Quebec’s Secularism Bill was brought up – it is exactly the opposite as it sounds. And yes, so was marginalization of indigenous communities. Obviously, Hasan left no stone unturned.
The PM was left with no choice but to answer. Unfortunately, his efforts to deflect the questions, or use diplomacy are difficult to ignore.
Middle Aged Men, or World Leaders?
In a funny part of the episode that flips between an interview and the set, we see them playing a game.
Hasan shows Trudeau some photos of men and asks him to guess whether they are random middle-aged men or actual world leaders. And, guess what? The Canadian PM did well, but got Equador’s leader wrong!
Trudeau: The “White Panther” of Canada
But why are we so surprised that Canada is doing such troubling things?
The truth is, popular media has painted Canada to be this futuristic place where everyone is treated equally, where democracy and free healthcare exist in full swing, and people drink maple syrup and have Tim Hortons in total bliss.
So when these terrible deals that are causing wars and destruction come up in Canada’s name – people were bound to get unsettled. To drive home the point, Hasan compares Trudeau to the fictional country of Wakanda! Trudeau smiles awkwardly and tries to accept the “compliment”.
