humour

A well-developed humour is a shield that not only adds stability to your steps but also helps you to walk through the hardships of life. Everyone around us has some defence mechanism which they utilise in order to protect themselves from the criticism around us. It brings rejoice in the environment. It not only boosts our metabolism but also keeps our mind relaxed and stress-free. Humour for defence could be a cheesy combination not just for protecting our emotions but also to help spread some happiness in society. Now, let’s see how humour can act as a protective shield and how we can benefit from it.

Keep the stress at a corner with humour by your side:

Adding the slightest pinch of humour can spark your life. You need to act mature and realise that difficulties are just a part of our living journey. So, instead of being stressed about it, have fun and embrace it.

Wicked sense of humour is a poisonous drug:

Make sure that you do not use your hilarious jokes in the professional working environment. Refrain from utilising your humour as a tool to degrade others. Using it at a wrong time might hurt the sentiments of the other person and also it will make you a racist or sexist for encouraging body shaming in society.

Humour acts as a tool from conflicts and chaos:

Humour is the best medicine whenever it comes to confusion, disturbances and fights. Even though, the world’s most favourite Chandler Bing from the American series FRIENDS has a unique trait of utilising his sense of humour as his armour from the comments of the outside world. His heroic performance as a leading hilarious actor has helped him to won millions of hearts all around the globe.

Think before you speak:

Timing is considered as one of the most crucial elements whenever it comes to cracking jokes or adding comedy into some conversation. For instance, you cracking some sexist joke when your friend is going through a bad phase of his life will degrade his morale and might harm his sentiments. Be aware of the other person’s condition before making humour about his misery.

Humour as a conversation starter:

Two smiling businessmen talking in the office

Comedy can become an excellent means of breaking ice whenever you met someone for the first time. This might be a bit awkward, but it will make both of them feel comfortable and can bring you both closer for knowing each other.

Thus, use it to uplift your mood in bad situations and protect your sentiments and emotions by changing the argumentative environment into a funny one.

Sites like Audible, Librivox, Storytel and Scribd are fantastic sites to get your new audiobook from. Also, yes, audiobooks are also a form of reading and you are in no way cheating by doing so. Most of us carry our phones everywhere and that also means you can also carry your audiobooks everywhere. One can download an audiobook or stream the audiobook on any device without worrying about the space it takes or how heavy it is. Also one can plug in their earphones or headphones anytime to listen to an audiobook.

2) You Can Read It Anywhere

This brings me to my second point that you can read it anywhere. Whether you are travelling or have gotten some time off from school, college or work, you can easily use this time to listen to an audiobook. Not all of us can read physically in crowded places and metros but when you have an audiobook anything is possible.

3) You Can Read More

Without the pressure of having to be at home or the library, one can power through a lot of reading simply by listening to audiobooks. Let the audiobook do the work for you as you make your way through the day.

4) You Can Multitask

If you’re a student or are somebody who has a job, chances are that you don’t have too much time on your hands to sit down and physically read. For this reason, audiobooks are your absolute best friends! If you have pending laundry or are doing mindless chores like washing the dishes or cleaning your room, you can just put on an audiobook and listen while carrying out all these odd jobs. It’s a win-win situation, I say.

5) Audiobooks Are Tons Of Fun

Audiobooks can be tons of fun. Reading words on a page can sometimes get a tad boring. In this case, one can find a wide range of audiobooks with fantastic narrators, sound effects and cool accents and mimicry. Audiobooks are truly a pleasure to read and you should definitely check them out for yourself!

Unhealthy Habits You Should Quit Right Away

Published

on

Some very common habits aren’t that good for us. The mundane things you do-or don’t do-every day might be sabotaging your efforts to be healthier. As you read the list of daily habits that makes you unhealthy, don’t be too hard on yourself and expect that you’ll change all of these at once. The key to success is to slowly integrate change into your life. Between interfering with your sleep and increasing your risk of deadly diseases, read on to find out what you probably should stop doing.

1. Hitting The Snooze Button

Via Pinterest

It’s so easy to wake up to your alarm and simply press the snooze button. Those extra few minutes are so enticing. But if you’re already very tired, snoozing is the last thing you need. After snoozing the alarm, you will likely start a new sleep cycle, which will be interrupted once the alarm goes off again. Sleep inertia, a groggy and tired state, affects you whenever you wake up, but snoozing just lengthens the time you’re afflicted. 20 minutes might turn into two to four hours.

2. Nail Biting

Via Pinterest

Not only is nail biting unhygienic, it is also socially repelling, leads to dental problems like malocclusion of the anterior teeth, potentially cause stomach problems and lead to severely deformed fingernails in the long run. People who bite their nails tend to have shorter nails than the average person; their nail plates also experience scarring and may eventually become absent. Your hands are the dirtiest part of you they touch everything: doorknobs, food, toilets, other people. The list goes on. Putting these dirty digits in your mouth could give you a cold or another illness, depending on what microbes are chilling on your fingers.

3. Not Drinking Enough Water

Via Pinterest

Water accounts for 60 percent of our body so it’s not too surprising that drinking water benefits your total body health. Staying hydrated helps to keep your memory sharp, your mood stable and your motivation intact. Keeping up with your fluids helps your skin stay supple, your body cool down when it’s hot, allows your muscles and joints to work better and helps clean toxins from your body via your kidneys. So, how much water should you be drinking? Science says adult men need about 13 cups per day of fluid; adult women need about 9.

4. Brushing Your Teeth Right After Eating

It seems counterintuitive to brush your teeth before breakfast unless you’re in the habit of eating on the way, but it can be the best option. Brushing your teeth right after eating or drinking can be a unhealthy habit for your tooth enamel, especially if you ate something acidic. Acid isn’t good for the enamel on your teeth; it erodes the protective covering. As a result, brushing right after you eat can push the acid even further into your teeth. Plus, once the acid gets through the enamel, it starts eating at another layer on your teeth: the dentin. Wait at least 30 minutes after eating to brush your teeth.

5. Eating Lunch at Your Desk

Via Channel 4

It’s all too easy to munch on your midday meal desk-side, but according to research published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, you’ll feel more satisfied and will rein in that temptation to binge mid afternoon if you turn your attention toward your meal. Study participants who ate lunch without distractions felt fuller 30 minutes after eating, and ate less when they snacked later, than people who played solitaire on a computer during their midday meal. Mindful eating is the key. Work towards breaking this unhealthy habit.

6. Skipping Dessert

Unhealthy

Via TED

You may think you’re doing a good thing by banishing sweet treats. But studies suggest that feeling deprived-even if you are consuming plenty of calories-can trigger overeating. And making any food off-limits just increases its allure. So if it’s something sweet you’re craving, go for it: a small treat won’t break your diet! Two squares of dark chocolate or ½ cup of ice cream clock in at under 150 calories. While keep in mind too much dessert is also unhealthy.
