FabiFlu By Glenmark Pharma- India Fights COVID

Published

on

The COVID-19 virus strain has completely changed the working of the world. The virus that started to spread mainly from Wuhan, China during the mid-December has soon escalated to become a global pandemic situation. The major hit countries during the initial phase were Italy, Greece and the US. As the days passed, the cases in India has seen a sharp increase. India is currently testing over 100,000 samples a day for the novel coronavirus. It might be small when compared to the population, but it is a significant increase and improvement. FabiFlu is the recent answer to tackle this situation.

How Dangerous Is The COVID-19?

Although for most people COVID-19 causes only mild illness, it can make some people very ill. More rarely, the disease can be fatal. Older people and those with pre-existing medical conditions (such as high blood pressure, heart problems or diabetes) appear to be more vulnerable. India has reported nearly 14,000 deaths so far. About 80% of confirmed cases recover from the disease without any serious complications. However, one out of every six people who get COVID-19 can become seriously ill and develop difficulty in breathing.

Why Is It Difficult to Develop a Vaccine for COVID?

To begin with, viruses mutate very quickly. Viruses are made up of ribonucleic acid (RNA), as this genetic material exists on a single strand, unlike a double-stranded DNA, it easily gets cut up and remixed once broken. This enables viruses to mutate quickly, meaning that any cures or vaccines made for a specific RNA may quickly become trash. More than this, vaccines generally take many years to reach the market as they must go through six developmental steps including a three-phase clinical development stage. By the time an effective vaccine has been developed the emergency may have blown over.

What Is India Using Against COVID?

Via Pharmaceutical India

Currently, India is experimenting with the usage of antiviral medicines and prescription drugs commonly used to treat influenza and other serious diseases. One of the most common ones being used is Hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) which has been in the middle of a controversy of late. Several Ayurvedic anti-viral medicines are also being studied as preventive or prophylactic medicine.

Glenmark has become the first pharmaceutical company in India to receive regulatory approval for oral antiviral favipiravir, for the treatment of mild to moderate COVID-19. The company has received manufacturing and marketing approval from India’s drug regulator. It makes FabiFlu the first oral Favipiravir-approved medication in India for the treatment of COVID-19.

What do preliminary trials suggest?

Via Nature

Since COVID-19 cases are rising every day and the healthcare infrastructure has come under severe strain, the availability of the drug will help in tracking the spread. It offers a rapid reduction in viral load within four days and provides faster symptomatic improvement. Favipiravir has shown clinical improvement of up to 88 per cent in mild to moderate Covid-19 cases. It is being touted as one of the most effective treatment plans right now because of its anti-viral properties. Preliminary trials have shown that patients who were prescribed the drug tend to recover faster than those who were given a placebo drug.

Why is it effective against COVID-19?

Via UGL

It is important to know that any virus, such as SARS-Cov-2 targets the healthy cells and then unloads a series of infections. Fabi Flu Tablet is a broad-spectrum antiviral medicine. It treats influenza (flu) and coronavirus disease (COVID-19). It works by inhibiting an RNA dependent enzyme called RNA polymerase that helps the virus make more copies of itself. This way it decreases the viral load in the body.

No power adapter with iPhone 12? WHAAAAT?

Apple has no plans to include a power adapter or EarPods in the box with the iPhone 12 models, letting the company cut down on production costs and packaging. Instead, Apple may offer a 20W power adapter that can be purchased separately. The USB-C to Lightning cable could get an upgrade, though, with rumours indicating Apple plans to offer a new braided cable design.

Delays due to COVID-19

iPhone 12 models will not ship out in September as usual due to delays caused by the global health crisis this year. Apple instead plans to introduce the iPhones in October, perhaps on October 13, and start shipping them out later that month. Rumours have suggested we can expect a staggered release, and some models might not come out until November.

Keeping all the excitement aside, we know that the difference with this iPhone and the rest won’t be that much. But we will still buy it because it’s a style statement. How else will all the tik-tokers and our beloved celebrities take mirror selfies?

But there’s one thing we are darn happy about- THE PRICE!

Marijuana: How It Effects Your Mind & Body

Published

on

Marijuana, weed, pot, dope, grass. They’re different names for the same drug that comes from the cannabis plant. You can smoke it, vape it, drink it, or eat it. Most folks use marijuana for pleasure and recreation. But a growing number of doctors prescribe it for specific medical conditions and symptoms.

Marijuana has mind-altering compounds that affect both your brain and body. It can be addictive, and it may be harmful to some people’s health. Here’s what can happen when you use marijuana:

It May Affect Your Mental Health

Effects of Marijuana on Mental Health 3.pdf - Google Drive

via- Google Drive

Not everyone’s experience with marijuana is pleasant. It often can leave you anxious, afraid, or panicked. Using pot may raise your chances for clinical depression or worsen the symptoms of any mental disorders you already have. Scientists aren’t yet sure exactly why. In high doses, it can make you paranoid or lose touch with reality so you hear or see things that aren’t there.

Your Thinking May Get Distorted

What are the health benefits and risks of cannabis?

via- Medical News Today

Marijuana can cloud your senses and judgment. The effects can differ depending on things like how potent your pot was, how you took it, and much marijuana you’ve used in the past. It might:

  • Heighten your senses (colors might seem brighter and sounds might seem louder)
  • Distort your sense of time
  • Hurt your motor skills and make driving more dangerous

You May Get Hooked

You may get hooked on it- Teens smoking marijuana

via- It’s Nice That

About 1 in 10 people who use pot will become addicted. That means you can’t stop using it even if it harms your relationships, job, health, or finances. The risk is greater the younger you start marijuana and the more heavily you use it. For instance, the odds of addiction are 1 in 6 if you use pot in your teens. It might be as high as 1 in 2 among those who use it every day.

You could also grow physically dependent on marijuana. Your body could go into withdrawal, leaving you irritable, restless, unable to sleep, and uninterested in eating.

It May Impair Your Brain

via- Royal Queen Seeds

Marijuana can make it harder for you to focus, learn, and remember things. This seems to be a short-term effect that lasts for 24 hours or longer after you stop smoking.

But using pot heavily, especially in your teen years, may leave more permanent effects. Imaging tests with some — but not all — adolescents found that marijuana may physically change their brains. Specifically, they had fewer connections in parts of the brain linked to alertness, learning, and memory, and tests show lower IQ scores in some people.

Your Lungs May Hurt

How Smoking Marijuana Affects Your Lungs

via- Benzinga

Pot smoke can inflame and irritate your lungs. If you use it regularly, you could have the same breathing problems as someone who smokes cigarettes. That could mean ongoing cough with colored mucus. Your lungs may more easily pick up infections. That’s partly because THC seems to weaken some users’ immune systems.

Though some might also say, that Marijuana has ZERO deaths recorded directly linked to it. Which is true. Some may also suggest that alcohol is more dangerous. Which may only seem fair to say. But do you really want to take the gamble?
