Vogue Italia’s First Ever Blank Cover

Published

on

VOGUE Italia’s April Issue signifies rebirth, light after darkness & space to think. The cover was designed by Vogue Italia’s creative director Ferdinando Verderi. There were a plethora of images to choose from, white does not signify the lack of any, it signifies many at the same time.

White is the colour of the uniforms worn by those who are putting their lives on risk to save ours during this time, said the Editor in chief. He highlighted Vogue’s journey through the years. It has seen wars, crises & acts of terrorism. It is not in Vogue’s DNA to turn its face away from crises.

“Some people say that the raison d’être of Vogue is to entertain- to offer a few hours of divertissement to those who leaf through its pages. I don’t know about that.” – Emanuele Farneti

“In times like this, we felt that a silent cover would speak louder than any word or image. It’s a universal message of purity, strength, respect, and hope. Yet behind the silence of this cover, a very lively and personal issue of Vogue Italia comes to life. More than 40 artists and friends welcomed the challenge to contribute from their own quarantines. We personally asked each artist to “stay true to the constraints that we are all sharing in these difficult times, creating simple, honest images”, and to depict the fashion “in a way that most reflects their personal moment, with nothing else in mind.” It’s fair to say that the resulting images depict the widest range of emotions, that seen together create a long distance community effort that becomes an important visual document of the times we are living. Ultimately, it’s an expression of what Emanuele and I believe Vogue Italia should aim to: talking about the world through fashion.” @FerdinandoVerderi. #FarAwaySoClose #imagine #WhiteCanvas — Editor in chief @EFarneti Creative director @FerdinandoVerderi Artwork @FerdinandoVerderi for Vogue Italia

Vogue Italia’s aim: Everyone Far Away, Nobody Alone

The issue will have a very personal and lively touch to it. Forty artists have contributed to the magazine in the most Quarantine-True way possible. These artists are from all around the world. This signifies Vogue Italia’s implicit aim: “talking about the world through fashion” . The world is under a lockdown but nobody should be facing it alone.

Far Away So Close. For our April issue we mustered our community. Over 40 artists, scattered around the world and in full lockdown, have made themselves available in their own homes to create a snapshot of the new world – everyone far away, nobody alone. @DavidSimsofficial: “It subtly describes part of the situation I/we are all in. The lack of facility to move and work in the normal way. The internet is the landscape we can explore. Roving around it looking for a residue of what we once had.” Discover the full Far Away So Close portfolio in our April Issue on newsstands next Friday 10th. #FarAwaySoClose #imagine #WhiteCanvas — Editor in chief @EFarneti Creative director @FerdinandoVerderi

Where brands all over the world are being criticised for being opportunistic in these times, Vogue Italia has hemmed in humanity into its work.

The pictures aptly represents the situation. No means of moving out for the artists and how they are dealing with Quarantine.

Steve Klein’s image has been one of the most meaningful ones so far. The image shows him holding the braided tail of a horse that passed away. It shows him “bowing down to humanity” to acknowledge the damage done to the planet in human history.

Vogue Italia’s April issue might not be as vibrant on the surface, however, it’s teeming with raw creativity. (more…)

1/5 Priyanka Chopra Tatler Magazine

While the world is in quarantine, these pictures are something to muse over during the lockdown. The ultimate first look of the cover shows Priyanka in her royal look. She poses in a golden gown with more emphasize on the sleeves done in golden motifs and intricate embroidery, just like an 18th century regal look.

2/5

The second one is a jaw-dropping look. The frills in her off-white gown and black gloves somehow reminds me of ‘Rose’ from Titanic. The hairdo gives the royalty vibes.

3/5

The third look reminds me of Audrey Hepburn!! The black and white fur jacket with the addition of the black net gloves completes the aesthetics of the look. On top of it, I love her hairdo: hair tied in a messy bun with a black knitted hair accessory. A classic look straight from a Hollywood movie, Ooh la la!

Desi girl gives us major turban goals in this picture. This is just like cutting across boundaries! She also rocks the black one-shoulder dress with purple gloves.

This look takes me back to the era of 60s! The hairdo that is OTT and dramatic is completed with the winger eyeliner. The neckpiece completes the close-up shot perfectly!

Defo, just love these looks of Priyanka Chopra from Tatler Magazine!
