Laundry might be dismissed as just another task in your day, but there are actually many things we often do wrong. From washing fine fabric to jeans, here’s all you need to know to make sure your clothes come out of the dryer fresh and clean!
1. Don’t wash your jeans as often
Unless and until your jeans have a nasty stain of curry, you do not actually need to put in the washing machine twice a month. Denim as a fabric is quite sturdy and thus, you can wear it for an extended period of time as well. But of course, that does not mean the cloth will not accumulate germs. For that, the best way to tackle is to put your jeans in a plastic bag and place it in the freezer – the cold temperature will easily kill off the bacteria that causes the bad smell.
2. Don’t use too much detergent
An excess amount of detergent can actually work the other way round and cause dirt particles to stick to your clothes. This means your clothes will come out just as dirty, if not more. To prevent this, use around half of the detergent you already use, and you can adjust accordingly from there.
3. Dry the sweaters directly
Putting your winter wear sweaters in the dryer can cause damage to them. The fabric may become loose and thus, causing the sweater to lose its shape. This will help in keeping the texture and fabric last for a longer duration of time.
4. Keep the machine clean
After every laundry wash, fill up your washing machine with some water and rinse away the remnant dirt particles and stray threads. This will keep the machine clean and prevent any damage from happening. Accumulation of this dirt is not good for the working of the machine.
5. You can unshrink your laundry clothes!
We all have that one extra nice shirt that we wore once, put it in the wash, and it came out two sizes smaller. But the thing is, the shrinking is really reversible. All you have to do is put the fabric in warm water with some baby shampoo. It will cause the fibres in the cloth or relax and stretch out again, thus reversing the shrinkage.
6. Know the temperatures
Certain temperatures are more suitable for specific kinds of fabric. If you are washing dark coloured clothes or ones that are likely to shrink, use cold water. But if you are washing clothes that are soft, like cloth diapers and towels, hot water is the better option.

3) Explore Your Neighbourhood
When you move into a new city, everything’s sparkling new and sometimes even strange. It’s best to acquaint yourself with the area. Head out and explore your neighbourhood. Jot down numbers and locations of convenient stores, medical stores and other important places. If emergencies crop up, you know just which number to call and where to go.
4) Join A Hobby Class
One of the ways that you can adjust to the new city is to join some hobby class like art class or a baking class. It will not only make your privy to the city but also help make friends. You will also be spending your time in a productive manner.
5) Visit Eating Joints
Every city has a few important and absolutely popular eating joints. If you’re a foodie, you should totally take this step into consideration and check out the local cuisine. This will help you understand the city better and even push you to go out and maybe explore the city.
6) Check Out Transportation
When you move into a new city, it’s really important to not only survey your area but also check out the local transportation. 7) Do A Test Run
If you’re working somewhere or are a college student, it’s imperative that you do a test run/walk/travel to your destination. This way you can figure out your timings and schedule your day around it. You can also figure out the required transportation you need to help you reach your final destination.

Laughter Is The Best Medicine! Here’s Why
Laughter, it’s said, is the best medicine. And there’s lots of evidence that laughter does lots of good things for us. It reduces pain and allows us to tolerate discomfort. Reduces blood sugar levels, increasing glucose tolerance in diabetics and nondiabetics. It improves your job performance, especially if your work depends on creativity and solving complex problems. Here are the ultimate benefits of laughter.
Laughter helps you stay mentally healthy
Laughter makes you feel good. And this positive feeling remains with you even after the laughter subsides. Humour helps you keep a positive, optimistic outlook through difficult situations, disappointments, and loss. More than just a respite from sadness and pain, laughter gives you the courage and strength to find new sources of meaning and hope. Even in the most difficult of times, a laugh–or even simply a smile–can go a long way toward making you feel better. And laughter really is contagious—just hearing laughter primes your brain and readies you to smile and join in the fun.
It Brings People Together In Relationships
There’s a good reason why TV sitcoms use laugh tracks- It is contagious. You’re many times more likely to laugh around other people than when you’re alone. And the more laughter you bring into your own life, the happier you and those around you will feel. Sharing humour is half the fun—in fact, most laughter doesn’t come from hearing jokes, but rather simply from spending time with friends and family. And it’s this social aspect that plays such an important role in the health benefits of laughter. You can’t enjoy a laugh with other people unless you take the time to really engage with them.
Simulated laughter, Is It Helpful?
So, what if you really can’t “find the funny?” Believe it or not, it’s possible to laugh without experiencing a funny event and simulated ones can be just as beneficial as the real thing. It can even make exercise more fun and productive. A Georgia State University study found that incorporating bouts of simulated laughter into an exercise program helped improve older adults’ mental health as well as their aerobic endurance. Plus, hearing others laugh, even for no apparent reason, can often trigger genuine smiles.
Create opportunities to laugh
- Watch a funny movie, TV show, or YouTube video
- Invite friends or co-workers out to a comedy club
- Read the funny pages
- Seek out funny people
- Share a good joke or a funny story
- Check out your bookstore’s humor section
- Host game night with friends
Developing your sense of humour
An essential ingredient for developing your sense of humour is to learn not to take yourself too seriously and laugh at your own mistakes and foibles. As much as we’d like to believe otherwise, we all do foolish things from time to time. Instead of feeling embarrassed or defensive, embrace your imperfections. While some events in life are clearly sad and not opportunities for laughter, most don’t carry an overwhelming sense of either sadness or delight. They fall into the grey zone of ordinary life giving you the choice to laugh or not. So choose to laugh whenever you can.
