‘365 Days’: Getting Banned Or A Sequel Coming-Up?

‘365 Days’ grabbed eyeballs when it was released on 7th February 2020 on Netflix. The movie follows Laura (Anna-Maria Sieklucka), a Polish executive who is holidaying in Sicily when she is kidnapped by Massimo (Michele Morrone), a mafia boss who has been obsessed with finding Laura after seeing her from afar five years ago. He tells her that he will keep her captive for 365 days until she falls in love with him (spoiler alert, she does), and thus the troublesome scene is set. The movie is based on the first novel of a trilogy written by Blanka Lipińska–  365 DNI. YAY! That means it’s a three-part series.

Our new Christian Grey, Massimo aka Michele Morrone, became an internet sensation in the blink of an eye. His Instagram followers grew from 700,000 to 2.2 million within few days.

All ‘365 Days’ fans and the actor’s fan are waiting for an update on the sequel. Morrone confirmed the sequel to ‘365 Days’, but he is not sure when the filming will start.  In an interview with Koimoi, he said,

“We’re going to shoot the second part. We still don’t know when because of the problem the whole world’s got with [COVID-19], but for sure we will make it.”
“For sure, we are going to make a sequel, a hundred per cent. But I don’t know when I’m going to start shooting because of the coronavirus problem.”

This Netflix movie broke various records-

It was the first movie to have two multiday periods as Netflix’s #1 movie in the US.

The film has thus had 10 days as #1, the second-highest in the chart’s history.

Despite the movie’s success, it received a lot of backlash.  It was criticised for romanticising kidnapping and rape. There is a standing petition to remove the movie from Netflix.  However, the star Massimo is of a different view.

Michele said,

“I was dealing with a tough time in my life when I decided to do 365 Days. I am nothing like the character in the film and it was a task for me to do this role because I don’t understand the world of a sex addict.”

Reacting to people petitioning it to be removed from Netflix, Michele says, “It is based on a novel and it’s someone vision. It’s fiction after all.” The actor also went on to compare the film with Disney’s Beauty and The Beast.

Harami focuses on the story of a teenage boy, who pickpockets at local Mumbai stations with his gang. His life takes a 180-degree when he falls in hopelessly in love with the daughter of one of his victims, who died by suicide after being robbed. On his path of redemption, the boy faces strong opposition from his boss (Emraan Hashmi).

Talking about his character, Emraan Hashmi says,

“My character is a former English teacher who does a U-turn to become the ringleader of a gang of young pickpockets who frequent Mumbai locals. So, while everyone around him speaks Bambaiya Hindi, Sagar Bhai chooses to speak in English because he’s tutoring these slum kids in the language too, so they can hoodwink unsuspecting foreign tourists and flick their wallets.”

Earlier this month, Emraan Hashmi unveiled his first look from the film. He can be seen sporting long curly hair with a gold chain and a pair of framed spectacles in the poster.

Talking about the film, director Shyam said in a statement,

“Harami, while set in the streets and slums of Mumbai is a universal story of hope and redemption. The film, a labour of love, took me over two years to just scout during numerous visits to India and despite all the monumental challenges we shot live in Victoria Terminus, Bombay Central, and other trains stations, a feat not for the faint-hearted. With crews over 200 including international talent from America, UK, Denmark and South Africa, Harami was a global production set in the slums of Dharavi and crowded streets of Mohamed Ali Road.”

On casting Emraan, Madiraju went on to say,

“It was Emraan Hashmi playing the role of ‘Sagar Bhai’ a very Dickensian Feagin-like character who is a former English teacher turned gang lord who is the real revelation of the film. The role complex and nuanced and unlike anything Emraan had done before, was a true challenge for both Emraan and me.”
